I was just very curious these past months since I never really cared about height.

When I was young, through the whole elementary, I was always among the tallest of the grade. Everybody was saying, I am so tall. But when highschool arrived, I seemed to have stoped growing. I do not get enough sleep (8 hours), I consume a lot of coffein etc. I actually do not abuse my body to stop growing. They say, a male grows up to age 21, while a girl, a few years less. A teenager usually experiences huge growth periods at age 14-15 but I haven't grew a centimeter at all during those periods. My current height is barely 1,70m which wouild be about 5'7" rouded off.

My dad is 5'4", my mom 5'2", my 11-year-old sister is 5'4" and growing immensly. I feel left behind from my friends since most of them are either 6 feet or over, it is usuual in a country(EU) full of tall people where the average height is 5'10". Walking through the streets, I always feel so small. My friends always make fun of me and say "Wow, what happend to you, you've shrunk!" and they burst out laughing. Others, say, I worry too much since I am not a midget after all. Others laugh at me when I talk to them about my stoping growth and say racist comments like "You will not grow anymore at all.You are doomed to be small, you have it in your genes, you're Asian, especially from the Philippines, where people are like hobbits." That is not true at all. Heck, I have unlces and cousins who grow 6 feet tall and even my grandpa was a former basketball player. They say, by age 19, one cannot grow that much anymore, only a few mililiters but barely an inch. I have been very insecure lately and don't know what to do. No matter how much calcium I consume, I eat the proper food, I am fit, I execise a lot...I give up hope and might even take growing pills. What do you guys think? Am I expecting too much?

Surround yourself with small friends, that's one of the best solution, and meron din naman tao di tumitingin sa ht,don't go with people who judge you on physical terms, you'll suffer from image dissatisfaction syndrome, there's a thread about it in greenbodytalk.

hey, don't feel inferior about that height issue. you just have to look for what you have that other's don't have. ako, i stand around 5'8" - 5'9" and i'm not bothered. i mean, who cares when i look better and way cooler than them. that's confidence, man.

Sad to say but height is really a function of genetics - you'll only grow as tall as your DNA tells you to. Plus, I read somewhere that Asians are really genetically generally shorter (Southeast Asians lalo - a lot of East Asian people are actually tall). And proportion-wise, we have rounder faces, larger heads and shorter limbs/legs than other races, kaya mas mukha tayong maliit compared to Caucasians who have naturally broad shoulders, longer legs and heavier bone structures.

Pero 5'7 isn't that short naman! I'm 5'8, and when I worked abroad naging joke yan na "hey you're not as small as other Asians!" so I guess sanay talaga sila to see Asians who are a lot shorter.

Matuwa na lang tayo because they envy us for being naturally thin and mabilis ang metabolism compared to them hehe. We eat tons of rice but we don't gain weight as much as they do. Nagugulat sila how oily and fatty our food is pero hindi tayo kasing-lapad nila LOL.

I guess If we wanna look taller, we should just fix our posture and wear properly-fitting clothes. Lalo na ang guys, napakahilig sa maluluwag na shirts and frumpy jeans, or shorts that go way below the knees. It makes you look short and stumpy, so stay away from that. OR uber-tight shirts that throw off the body's proportion LOL.

Pero if gusto mo talaga tumangkad, there are shoes with built-in "height enhancers." There are shoe inserts that add some centimetres to your height din (I was able to see some in Saizen, those Japanese Daiso stores in Galleria and AliMall). Check those out Smiley

It's really all a question of genetics and race, I guess.  Asians, especially SE Asians, are relatively smaller than others.

Pero 5'7" is not short naman ano.  Dyosme, I am only 5'4".  Hahaha!  I do get conscious about it every now and then kasi I am the smallest amongst my male siblings and cousins.  They are all 5'8" and above.
