Health Benefits of Blackstrap Molasses
« on: October 30, 2011, 03:34:26 PM »
Molasses is an excellent source of iron, calcium, copper and manganese. It is also a good source of potassium and magnesium.

Iron and Copper
Blackstrap molasses contains high levels of iron and copper. Iron provides energy and boosts metabolism. Copper helps the human body utilize iron, eliminate free radicals and produce melanin.

Calcium
It is a calcium-rich food. Calcium is needed to promote healthy teeth and bones, blood-clotting abilities, enzyme activity and toxin removal.

Magnesium and Potassium
It contains good amounts of magnesium and potassium. Magnesium serves as a natural calcium channel blocker, while potassium helps the muscles contract properly.

Manganese
It is also a great source of manganese, a trace mineral that helps the human body synthesize fatty acids and produce energy from carbohydrates and proteins.

Significance of molasses

Good for Anemia
One tbs. of molasses consumed daily can help replenish your iron stores, helping to correct anemia. The iron increase will also boost your energy level.

Muscle Benefits
By supplying calcium to the body, molasses works to help muscles contract properly, including the heart.

Bone and Teeth Health
The calcium in molasses also helps to develop and maintain healthy bones and teeth.
Bone problems occurring during menopause can also be prevented.

Eases Menopause Symptoms
Menopause is the result of different conditions, including a deficiency of mineral salts in the body. Consumption of molasses can help with a number of menopause symptoms such as PMS, cramping, mood swings and hot flashes. It is believed that molasses consumption can also reduce the size of fibroid tumors.

A Healing Agent
Molasses promotes the healing of wounds and also binds with toxins in the colon to fight against colon cancer.

Warning
Individuals diagnosed with diabetes and lupus should consult their health practitioner before consuming large amounts of blackstrap molasses.

The benefits of blackstrap molasses, as previously implied, are legion. For a start, blackstrap contains a large number of trace minerals that are often lacking in other foods. It is not only high in iron, it’s also easily absorbed. A few tablespoons of blackstrap molasses a day can give a person all the iron they need.
