Though athlete’s foot cannot be easily prevented, here are some tips to reduce the risk of infection:

1.Practice good hygiene measures: keep your feet clean, cool, and dry.

2.Wear sandals when you are in public areas with wet floors (locker rooms, showers, etc.).

3.Choose cotton socks to absorb excess humidity and wear sport shoes that allow good ventilation.

4.If required, sprinkle your feet with talcum powder, or medicated antifungal foot powder.

If you still catch athlete’s foot, it is important to begin a topical antifungal treatment to get rid of the infection. Your pharmacist, an accessible health professional, can help you choose the right treatment for your situation. However, if the infection does not improve by the end of the treatment, or it worsens, you should see a physician.
